Africa's leading telecommunication firm, MTN has announced a deal worth $2 million with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), becoming the official headline sponsor of four national teams.
The two-year deal signed on Thursday, August 14, 2025 in Accra benefits the senior men’s team (Black Stars), senior women’s team (Black Queens), the under-20 men’s team (Black Satellites), and the under-17 men’s team (Black Starlets).
According to Stephen Blewett, the chief executive officer of MTN Ghana, the company's decision to invest in Ghanaian football is based on its long-standing dedication to the growth of sports in the West African country and its faith in the ability of football to bring people together.
“Football is a passion that connects the whole country, and MTN is proud to be part of the journey to take our teams to greater heights,” he said during the ceremony in Accra.
As Ghana's national teams set to commence preparations for impending international tournaments, the sponsorship comes at a crucial moment.
The Black Queens are now aiming for the 2027 Women's World Cup and the upcoming WAFCON after winning the bronze in the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Black Stars are concentrating on securing a position at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Before finishing the campaign with games against Comoros and the Central African Republic in October, coach Otto Addo and his team will reassemble in September for Matchday 7 and 8 qualifiers against Chad and Mali.
MTN, Ghana’s largest mobile network operator, has a long history of sports sponsorship, including its ongoing title sponsorship of the Ghana FA Cup.
