Newly appointed Ghana Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has delivered a strong message to players at home and abroad, insisting that selection under his leadership will be based strictly on performance.
Speaking at his official unveiling as Ghana coach, the experienced tactician stressed that fairness, competition and equal opportunity will shape his time in charge of the Black Stars.
“No one owns a national team place. The players dream to represent the national team and it is our job to give them a fair and right opportunity,” Queiroz stated.
His remarks point to a more competitive environment within the squad, where past reputation alone will not be enough to secure a place. Instead, players will be expected to prove themselves regularly to remain part of the team.
In Ghana’s football culture, where squad selection often sparks strong debate among supporters, Queiroz’s comments are likely to be welcomed by fans who want to see openness and fairness in team decisions.
The Portuguese gaffers’s stance also offers encouragement to rising talents playing in both domestic competitions and leagues abroad, sending a clear message that a place in the national team is open to those who perform well.
As Ghana prepare to rebuild and compete strongly on the international stage, Queiroz appears determined to create a squad built on merit, one where opportunities are earned and hard work is rewarded.
