Former Ghana Football Association chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has issued a blunt assessment of the Black Stars’ readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that most players of the current squad are not yet good enough for the global showpiece.

Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which was their first absence in over two decades, but they've managed to make a return to the World Cup after topping their qualification group with 25 points. Despite that achievement, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe believes the team requires significant strengthening if it is to compete effectively in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking to Graphic Sports, he argued that several players who featured during the qualifiers are not prepared for the higher demands of the tournament and called on head coach Otto Addo and his technical staff to identify stronger, more experienced alternatives.

“We are going to play at the highest stage of football, and if the country wants to progress, then most of the boys who brought us to where we are today are not good players,” he said.

“If there are other experienced footballers, we should look for the best that will take us to the World Cup.”

Ghana will learn their group-stage opponents when the World Cup draw takes place on Friday, 5 November.
