Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in Kumasi has etched its name in gold in Ashanti football folklore after beating Opoku Ware School (OWASS) 1–0 to lift the 2025/2026 Inter-School and Colleges Boys’ Football title at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The victory gives OKESS their 10th trophy in the history of the competition, cementing their status as the most successful school in the Ashanti Region. Remarkably, it is also their second championship in three straight finals, with last year’s triumph coming over SIMMS SHS on penalties after a 2–2 draw.
Their road to glory this season was emphatic. OKESS brushed aside Our Lady of Grace Senior High School (OLAG-SHS) 3–0 in the semi-finals, while OWASS booked their spot with a tight 1–0 win over long-time rivals Prempeh College.
The latest accomplishment has them comfortably sitting at the summit of school football dominance in the region.
Star performers made their mark too. OKESS goalkeeper Latif Suleiman, who also features for Division One League side PAC Academy, was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament (3 clean sheets in 5 games). Also, striker Joshua Fuseini of Division One League club Golden Kick FC, finished as top scorer with five goals.

Over the years, OKESS has established itself as a powerhouse in grooming sporting talent, particularly in football. The school has produced several top national team players, including Sulley Muntari, John Mensah, Ibrahim Tanko, Stephen Oduro, Frank Acheampong and current Black Stars midfielder kwasi Sibo of Real Oviedo in the Spanish La Liga.
Founded in 1937, OKESS—whose alumni proudly call themselves “Ahenema” (Princes and Princesses)—was the first secondary school established in the Ashanti Region. Originally known as Asante Collegiate under the leadership of the late Rev. J. T. Robert, the school has grown into one of Ghana’s most respected second-cycle institutions, with a proud legacy both academically and in sports.
