Former Black Stars defender Tony Baffoe has appealed for the Ghana Football Association to establish a permanent football office in Europe to closely monitor and engage young players of Ghanaian descent.

His comments come amid growing interest from diaspora-based footballers eager to represent Ghana following the Black Stars’ successful qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, Baffoe stressed the importance of identifying and approaching eligible players early, while acknowledging that the final decision on call-ups remains with the national team’s technical handlers.

“This is very, very important. I have always said it’s necessary for us to open an office in Europe to reach out to these young and upcoming players early,” Baffoe said. “For now, it is the choice of the coach and the technical team.”

Baffoe, who made history as the first diaspora-born player to represent Ghana, also urged players with dual nationality to make timely decisions about their international future.

“If you are willing to play for Ghana, you should make your choice at the right time. It’s important for them to identify themselves with Ghana early,” he added.

With World Cup preparations now underway, the Black Stars technical team continues to assess player options both at home and abroad as Ghana looks to assemble a competitive squad for the global stage.
