Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad for the upcoming Unity Cup early next week.
The senior national team will participate in a four-nation tournament in the United Kingdom later this month. Ghana will lock horns with long-time rivals Nigeria in a semifinal clash at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford on Tuesday, May 28, with kickoff scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
The winner of that encounter will advance to the final on Saturday, May 31, to face either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago at 12:30 GMT.
Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Asante Twum confirmed that the technical team is in the final stages of planning and hinted at the inclusion of new faces in the squad.
“I know the technical team is considering how to approach this Cup. There will be some fresh additions while maintaining the core of the team,” he said. “Possibly by next week, the coach will announce his squad. If local players are included, they’ll join the home-based contingent and head straight to London to begin preparations.”
Meanwhile, reports from local media suggest that Asante Kotoko duo Andrews Ntim Manu and Kwame Opoku could be among the local players called up, along with Dreams FC stars Kamaradini Mamudu and Razak Simpson, as well as current first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
