Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced deep concern over the deteriorating state of sports in the country, describing it as “sick” and in urgent need of intervention.
Football and other sporting disciplines in Ghana have suffered a significant decline in recent years, with the situation worsening following the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem, stressed the need for a united effort to restore Ghana’s sporting excellence.
“Our football is in a sorry state. The only thing we have now is past glories. We are four-time African champions, but our football and sports, in general, are in a bad condition. This is the time for us to come together and reignite the passion for sports in Ghana," he said.
He urged Ghanaians to actively support and invest in sports to revive its declining standards.
“I want to appeal to Ghanaians to get involved and invest in our sports because it is sick and needs to be healed. The only way we can fix it is by showing love and commitment to its revival.
“Our senior national team is struggling, and this has affected other sports as well. It is time we invest in our various sporting disciplines to bring them back to life," he added.
