Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has expressed his sense of vindication following a court ruling in his favor regarding the annulment of his marriage to Gifty Gyamesi, his ex-wife.
In a verdict delivered by an Accra court after a three-year legal battle, Asamoah Gyan's paternity of the three children born to Gifty Gyan was affirmed. The court has mandated Asamoah Gyan to provide financial support to Gifty Gyan, in the form of a monthly stipend of 25,000 Ghana cedis.
This financial assistance, however, does not cover specific expenses such as school fees, medical and dental care, flight tickets, and various other childcare costs.
Furthermore, the court has ruled that Asamoah Gyan's mansion located in the United Kingdom must be transferred to Gifty Gyan as part of the settlement. Additionally, Gifty Gyan has been awarded a four-bedroom house in Spintex, Accra. Two vehicles owned by Asamoah Gyan, a BMW and an Infiniti, are to be handed over to Gifty Gyan.
Furthermore, Asamoah Gyan's land, originally designated for the construction of a filling station, has been assigned to Gifty Gyan.
Despite the various penalties awarded against Gyan, the former Sunderland and Udinese star, in an interview, emphasized his sense of vindication. He explained that he had refrained from publicly discussing the issue for five years. He asserted that the court's ruling was in line with his wishes, and he believes that people around his ex-wife are attempting to twist the verdict for public sympathy. Asamoah Gyan has warned that he may come out and talk about the case if the situation continues to be misrepresented.
"It has been five years and people have said a lot of things but I didn't complain because I know that as a public figure, these things happen. Because of my kids, I won't say anything but now they are trying to twist the ruling to make it seem like I lost the case.
"I spoke to Gifty that because of what is going on, I would come out and defend myself. I spoke to her and told her point blank that I have kept quiet on the issue and allowed all kinds of false narratives about me.
"His people lost the case but they want public sympathy so they made it seem like I'm the bad person. Now that the verdict is out and they want to turn it against me, I will come out and talk. I'm talking today because I have already warned her.
"I have been vindicated because the court has ruled in favor of me and what I wished, they granted it. I know it’s not coming from my ex-wife but rather people around her who know that they've lost the case. They want to clear their name," he said.
