Former Vice President of the Ghana FA, George Afriyie stated the Black Stars lost against Sudan in the second as a result of proper planning and also they struggled to play on the astro turf.
The Black Stars had their woes deepen in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after succumbing to a painful 2-0 defeat to the Falcons of Jediane last Tuesday afternoon in match-day four in Benghazi.
Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud opened the scoring account for Sudan in the 62nd minute before starman Mohammed Abdelrahman doubled the lead three minutes later to seal the victory.
It is looking very unlikely for Ghana to qualify for the next AFCON having gone without a win in their opening four matches and are currently sitting on the third position in Group F with just two points.
In an interview on JoySports, the former GFA Presidential aspirant disclosed the team should have relocated to Benghazi earlier to have their recovery sessions at the match venue so they will acclimize quickly with playing on the astro turf which he feels gave our players lots of problem in the game especially the defenders.
"Lack of proper planning caused the defeat in the game against Sudan," Afriyie told JoySports.
“Right after the game in Ghana, the team should have travelled to Benghazi for recovery sessions on an AstroTurf field starting from Friday and continued through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
“The two goals we conceded were because our defenders struggled on the AstroTurf, leading to mistakes,” he added.
The four-time African champions will regroup again next month to take on Angola and Niger to wrap up the qualifiers and will have to win all these games if they still want to secure qualification which is still subjected from results in other games in the group..
