Former Ghana defender, Dan Quaye, has offered profound advice to Black Stars new number-one goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to shy away from pride.
Quaye's comments come after Asare exhibited a stunning display on his Black Stars debut during their 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar.
The Black Stars gave a stellar performance in their home match against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, achieving a 5-0 win. The team then traveled to face Madagascar in Morocco, where they clinched a 3-0 victory while maintaining another clean sheet.
A driving force to these outstanding defensive displays was Benjamin Asare of Hearts of Oak, who put up impressive performances in both games. His commanding presence between the sticks ensured that the team remained intact, instilling confidence in the defense and entertaining fans with a few of his stunning displays.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Hearts of Oak guardsman appealed to Asare to remain focused and eliminate self-contentment.
“Benjamin Asare merits Black Stars first choice goalkeeper spot. He is an experienced goalkeeper and has been in the system for a long time. He had stints with lower-tier clubs before the Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak. We all know the impact of local goalkeepers in the national team so I wasn’t surprised with his performance. I was convinced he could deliver when given the opportunity.
“I will advise him not to be complacent after this match. He should stick to his training and get rid of pride. Asare should be careful and I believe he can attain greater heights," Buoyant Quaye added.
As the team looks ahead to their next matches in the qualifier, their recent performances have reignited passion and belief among Ghanaians, establishing a cheerful tone for the team’s journey ahead.
