Former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Samuel Anim Addo, has described the current state of the Baba Yara Stadium as disappointment and feels we're not doing enough to preserve our various stadia.
He made these comments on the back of the irate Ghanaian fans who have expressed disappointment after seeing the state of the Baba Yara Stadium after it was rented out for a church event over the weekend.
The pitch is currently in a very bad state and won't be able to host any football game following the mounting of stage and canopies for a crusade organized by the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry William Kumuyi.
The Black Stars will very soon regroup to start their 2025 AFCON qualifiers and have always been using the facility in Kumasi for most of their matches but is currently not in a good state.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, Samuel Anim Addo feels very disappointed in what he described as negligence on the part of the NSA and added Ghana could be forced to play at a neutral ground if we don't start paying attention to maintenance culture.
"Do we want to play our home matches in another country because our stadiums are unfit for international matches due to the authorities’ negligence?” he told the Graphic Sports.
“We invest heavily in building stadiums, but we are not protecting them for sports. We love the game, but we don’t want to protect it. It’s a big disappointment."
“This [protection of the pitches] has been an issue for discussion for a long time, but the National Sports Authority appears not ready to do the right thing to preserve the pitches. As a country, we must begin to sanction duty bearers to serve as a deterrent", he concluded
Ghana will host Angola on September 6, at the Baba Yara Stadium in their opening fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
