Incoming Ghana national football team assistant coach Roger De Sa has shared insights into the team’s approach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasising that the priority is to represent the country with pride rather than chase strict performance targets.

The South African coach is expected to link up with head coach Carlos Queiroz after Otto Addo’s departure in March, following Ghana’s back-to-back friendly defeats against Austria and Germany.

De Sa’s appointment also reunites him with Queiroz, with whom he has previously worked in successful stints with Iran and Egypt. Their partnership is expected to bring structure, experience, and tactical discipline as Ghana head into the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking to South African outlet KickOff, De Sa made it clear that the focus is on effort and representation rather than external pressure or fixed objectives.

“There is no mandate to win this and that,” he stated. “The job is to go to the World Cup and fly the Ghanaian flag as high as possible. We will do our best.”

The new technical leadership is expected to be formally unveiled in Accra on Thursday, April 23, after which full preparations for the World Cup campaign will begin.

In preparation for the tournament, Ghana will face Mexico and Wales in two high-profile friendly matches on June 2, designed to fine-tune the squad’s readiness.

At the tournament itself, the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L, where they will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

The arrival of Queiroz and De Sa marks a fresh chapter for Ghana as they look to improve on previous World Cup disappointments, having exited at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022.
