Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has refuted reports suggesting plans to sack Chris Hughton.
The 64-year-old faced criticism after the Black Stars' consecutive defeats in the October international friendly games.
Hughton’s unbeaten run ended with Ghana's 2-0 loss to Mexico and a 4-0 defeat against the USA team.
Amid uncertainty about Hughton's future, reports emerged that he would be replaced by George Boateng, the assistant coach.
However, Asante Twum dismissed these reports, stating there were no plans to sack Chris Hughton, despite a meeting with the Executive Council.
“It was unfortunate that the story (Chris Hughton to be sacked) went viral in the lead-up to two crucial World Cup games,” he told LUV FM.
“Chris Hughton was invited to meet the Executive Council but there were no plans to sack him,” he added.
Ghana is set to host Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium in their first Group I game on Friday, November 17, before traveling to face Comoros on November 21.
Hughton, appointed as Otto Addo’s successor on a 21-month deal in March earlier this year, has secured qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted in Ivory Coast next year. He is expected to lead the team in the tournament as they aim to end the country’s 41-year AFCON trophy drought, having been drawn in Group B with Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
