Head coach of Gor Mahia, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has urged Ghana head coach Otto Addo to consider midfielder Enoch Morrison for a potential Black Stars call-up, citing his impressive performances in the Kenyan Premier League.
The former Asante Kotoko midfielder has been in outstanding form this season, producing 15 Man-of-the-Match performances in 25 appearances, establishing himself as one of the league’s most influential players.
Morrison’s consistency has played a key role in Gor Mahia’s strong campaign, with the club currently sitting at the summit of the league table on 56 points, seven points ahead of their closest rivals.
Despite growing calls for his inclusion, the 26-year-old was not named in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany.
Akonnor, however, believes the midfielder’s recent form justifies serious consideration, even if an immediate call-up may not be forthcoming. He stressed that Morrison’s performances now place him in a position where he can no longer be overlooked as Ghana continues to fine-tune its squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“He’s not been in the picture for a long time, probably because of his performances, and now he’s doing very well, so maybe now they can start to look at him in that aspect,” Akonnor told Graphic Sports.
“Yes, he’s doing very well, so now is the time to start looking at him. In the past, he wasn’t in that category, so it’s no surprise he wasn’t invited.”
With competition for places in Ghana’s midfield remaining intense, Morrison faces a tough path to breaking into the national team. However, his current form has firmly placed him on the radar as the Black Stars evaluate options for future selections.
