A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, Frederick Acheampong, has affirmed that the domestic football governing body does not require clearance from anyone before making appointments to the various national teams.
Acheampong's comments come following the recent restructuring in the technical team of the Black Stars, after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 Afcon.
German gaffer Winfrefried Schäfer has been appointed as the new technical advisor of the Black Stars cum technical director for the GFA.
Schäfer was appointed to bring-in fresh ideas in improving the technical team of the senior national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
He will be joined by Kris Perquy as the new psychologist, Gregory De Grauwe as the video analyst, and Black Satellites' Desmond Ofei, who replaces Joseph Laumann as the first-team assistant coach.
Amidst criticism, Acheampong speaking to Asempa FM, robustly defended the appointments saying that the GFA is vested with full authority to take its own decisions independently.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) don’t need to consult anyone to make a decision on the Black Stars.
“We are the runners of the various national teams and we don’t need to consult anyone in decision,” he added.
