Basake Holy Stars recorded a morale-boosting 3-0 success over Young Apostles in the Premier League on Saturday mid-afternoon at the A.A.K II Sports Arena, Ampain.
The hosts gave their fans a great moment of real quality in an otherwise forgettable Holy Ground showdown.
Reinforced by the returns of their crocked players to the starting XI, Holy Stars unsurprisingly took the game by the scruff of the neck mid doors, albeit without the attacking conviction required to penetrate their visitors' defence.
Some wayward shooting from Abdulai Gazale’s troops was doing them no favours either, and Young Apostles also had their fair share of the ball in an extremely closely-contested first 45.
However, the Nzema side' first-half resilience ended up counting for something just eight minutes after the restart, as Prince Opoku blasted home a thunderous goal to break the inner lips of the match for Holy Stars in the 53rd minute, before Yakubu Issah added the second goal eight minutes later.
Gazale’s men cemented their win with a 90+1’ minute goal as they comfortably kept Karim Zito's team at arm's length in the time that remained to rise two place into 8th in the Ghana Premier League table with 18 points, while Young Apostles have dropped three place to 15th on 13 points.
