Hearts of Oak delivered a commanding performance at the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday 32 of the Ghana Premier League, cruising to a 3-1 victory over city rivals Accra Lions on Sunday.
Goals from Enoch Asubonteng, Kofi Asmah, and in-form forward Hamza Issah sealed all three points for the Phobians, who have now recorded consecutive league wins in their push to finish the season strongly.
The match got off to a lively start, with Hearts asserting early dominance. Their pressure paid off in the 11th minute when Asubonteng cut inside from the left and rifled a low shot past goalkeeper Daniel Afful to give the home side a deserved lead.
Accra Lions responded with a spell of possession and attacking intent, with Yao Sokpoli and Lawrence Setordjie both testing Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. Setordjie would eventually find the equalizer midway through the second half with a stunning long-range strike that left Asare rooted. Unfortunately for Lions, the goalscorer was forced off just a minute later with an injury.
Despite Accra Lions growing into the game, their failure to clear their lines in the closing stages proved costly. Hamza Issah capitalized on a defensive lapse to set up Kofi Asmah, who calmly slotted home to restore Hearts’ lead.
Issah then turned from provider to scorer in the dying minutes, finishing off a quick counterattack with a delicate lob over the onrushing Afful to seal a well-earned 3-1 win for the Phobians.
The result strengthens Hearts of Oak’s position in the top half of the table as they aim to end the season on a high. Meanwhile, Accra Lions will be left to rue their missed chances and defensive lapses as they continue to fight for a respectable finish.
