Eleven Wonders will be hoping to claim their first win of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season when they welcome Young Apostles to the Swedru Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors have enjoyed a steadier start to the campaign and will aim to build on last weekend’s impressive victory over Dreams FC, while Wonders continue to search for momentum after a difficult return to the top flight.
Match preview
After securing promotion last term, Eleven Wonders have found life in the Premier League challenging, collecting only one point from their opening three matches. Nii Odartey Lamptey’s men currently sit 16th in the standings and are yet to register a win, with their struggles largely stemming from a lack of attacking cohesion and consistency at the back.
In contrast, Young Apostles have adjusted better to the pace of the top tier. Abu Abdul-Hanaan’s Agya Na Ɔwɔ Tumi side recorded a morale-boosting 2–1 win over Dreams FC in Wenchi last weekend, taking their tally to four points from a possible nine. Their campaign began with a narrow defeat to title contenders Medeama, followed by a draw against Hohoe United, before finally notching their first victory.
The Apostles will now target consecutive wins for the first time this season, knowing they have a strong record against Sunday’s opponents. They have beaten Eleven Wonders in each of their four meetings since 2023, including a 1–0 victory in last season’s Division One League fixture.
Given both sides’ early form, the visitors enter this clash as slight favourites, though Wonders’ home advantage could make for a tighter contest.
Team News
Eleven Wonders
Head coach Nii Odartey Lamptey may stick with a familiar setup but could introduce fresh legs in midfield after a flat display last time out. Skipper Emmanuel Boateng remains pivotal to the team’s structure, while Daniel Lomotey Agbloe is expected to lead the line. Defensive duo Desmond Acheampong and Issah Ahmed will need to be alert to handle the Apostles’ quick transitions.
Young Apostles
Abu Abdul-Hanaan has little reason to alter a winning side. Ramzy Abubakar will captain from midfield, supported by Abdul Ganiyu Muftaw and Huseine Issah, who were both influential in their victory over Dreams FC. Mathias Amegbe and Richmond Coka should continue their partnership in defence, protecting goalkeeper Masawudu.
Eleven Wonders possible starting lineup:
Joseph Baah; Desmond Acheampong, Edmund Afurapoe, Issah Ahmed; Matthew Amponsah, Frank Awere, Emmanuel Boateng (C), Albert Frimpong; Mohammed Issah, Daniel Lomotey Agbloe, Kenneth Owusu
Young Apostles possible starting lineup:
Masawudu; Ramzy Abubakar (C), Mathias Amegbe, Richmond Coka; Ali Ganiwu, Huseine Issah, Abdul Ganiyu Muftaw, Issah Nyaabila; Samuel Prempeh, Rurf Abdul Rahman, Mobarick Zakari
We Say: Eleven Wonders 1–2 Young Apostles
Both sides will see this fixture as an opportunity to build confidence, though Young Apostles’ recent form and historical dominance in this matchup give them a slight edge. Eleven Wonders should be more competitive on home soil, but their defensive issues remain a concern.
The Apostles’ attacking trio could prove decisive again, with Huseine Issah and Abdul Ganiyu Muftaw expected to get on the scoresheet, while Daniel Lomotey Agbloe may find a consolation for the hosts.
