FC Samartex reignited their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign with a gritty 1–0 away victory over Karela United, as Christian Agyenim Boateng’s decisive strike proved the difference at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In a game decided by small details, the Timber Giants stayed strong and patient to beat a determined Karela side and move back into the top six, while the home team were left disappointed once again in front of their fans.
Karela United started the game strongly, keeping the ball early and pressing hard as they looked for a response after three games without a win. Coach Nurudeen Amadu’s side passed the ball well in midfield and put early pressure on the Samartex defence, but they struggled to create clear scoring chances.
The goal finally came just after the break, and it went against Karela’s early control of the game. In the 50th minute, 23-year-old right-winger Christian Agyenim Boateng stayed calm and scored to put Samartex ahead, silencing the Tamale crowd.
After going behind, Karela increased the pace, sending more players forward and searching for an equaliser. They had a few promising moments in attack, but their moves were not sharp enough to break down the well-organised Samartex defence.
As time ran out, the Timber Giants sat back and defended their lead with focus and experience. Even with strong late pressure from Karela, Samartex stayed solid to finish the game and claim an important away win.
The victory is Samartex’s eighth win of the season, along with seven draws and four losses after 19 games. The result lifts them to sixth on the league table with 31 points.
For Karela United, it was another frustrating result. They now have six wins, seven draws and five losses, dropping to eighth place with 25 points as they continue to look for better form.
