Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways in the on Sunday afternoon, beating Dreams FC 1–0 in a tense Matchweek 14 encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

A late winner from forward Kwame Opoku decided the outcome, as the Porcupine Warriors finally converted sustained pressure into reward to secure all three points against a wasteful Dreams FC side.

Determined to bounce back after recent frustration, Asante Kotoko started the match under heavy pressure, giving Dreams FC the freewill to dominate possession and pressing aggressively for the opener. Coach Winfred Dormon’s side showed intense hunger, pinning Kotoko deep for long stages in the opening exchanges.

Despite Dream’s control, clear chances were limited early on as they carved out the more obvious openings in the first half. Jonathan Nemorden, the visitors’ main attacking outlet, found himself in promising positions but squandered opportunities that left the travelling supporters and neutral fans in disbelief.

Kotoko continued to probe patiently after the break, pushing higher and increasing the intensity as the game wore on. Their persistence eventually paid off in the 80th minute when substitute Kwame Opoku broke the deadlock, firing home to spark loud celebrations inside the Baba Yara Stadium.

The goal marked Opoku’s second of the campaign, adding to his earlier strike in Matchweek 3 against Basake Holy Stars, and underlined his growing importance in Kotoko’s attacking setup.

Dreams FC attempted to respond in the closing stages, but Kotoko managed the final minutes with focusness, ensuring the slender advantage remained intact until the final whistle.

The victory sees Asante Kotoko record their sixth win of the season and climb to third place on the 18-team league table with 24 points after 14 matches. With six wins, six draws and just two defeats, Zito’s men remain one of the league’s hardest sides to beat, though their tendency to share points has slowed their title push.

For Dreams FC, the defeat leaves them 16th with 14 points, having managed four wins, two draws and eight defeats so far. Under the guidance of former Tudu Mighty Jets star Winfred Dormon, the Still Believe continue to show flashes of promise, but profligacy in front of goal and inconsistency have kept them entrenched in the relegation zone.
