Young Apostles stunned Bechem United in a pulsating five-goal thriller, running out 3–2 winners in their matchweek nine encounter of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Wenchi Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Agya Na Ɔwɔ Tumi Boys showed determination to overturn an early deficit and claim all three points, with Vincent Mobilla emerging as the late hero in a match that had everything, goals, drama, and relentless attacking football.
Bechem United, who were desperate to climb out of the relegation zone, began brightly and were rewarded midway through the first half. Veteran forward Augustine Okrah showcased his trademark composure, slotting home a fine finish in the 25th minute to hand the visitors a 1–0 lead.
The goal appeared to jolt Young Apostles into life, and they began to assert themselves in midfield through captain Abdul Ganiyu Muftaw and playmaker John Afram. Their persistence paid off just before the break when forward Husseine Issah pounced on a ball to fire home the equalizer in first-half stoppage time (45+2’), ensuring the hosts went into the interval on level terms.
The home side came out for the second half with renewed energy and quickly turned the game around. In the 57th minute, defender Issah Nyaabila nicked home past goalkeeper Emmanuel Anning, putting the Agya Na Ɔwɔ Tumi Boys 2–1 ahead to the delight of the Wenchi fans.
Bechem United refused to back down, however, and continued to threaten on the break through Augustine Mensah and Emmanuel Abban. Their pressure paid off in the 79th minute, when defender Boa-At Regain bundled the ball over the line following a goalmouth scramble to make it 2–2, setting up a tense last gasp winner.
But the drama wasn’t over. Just six minutes later, Vincent Mobilla restored Young Apostles’ lead with a well-taken finish after clever buildup play. The 85th-minute strike proved decisive as the hosts held firm to seal a vital home victory.
The result sees Young Apostles climb to 8th place on the league table with 14 points from eight games, recording four wins, two draws, and two defeats, with one outstanding match yet to be played.
Meanwhile, Bechem United’s poor run continues, as they slip further into the relegation zone (16th) with just six points after nine rounds of matches, having managed only one win all season.
