FC Samartex maintained their impressive early-season form with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over bottom-placed Eleven Wonders at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon.
A brace from in-form forward Emmanuel Mamah secured all three points for the Timber Giants, while Eden Kofi Asamoah’s late strike offered little more than consolation for the winless visitors.
The hosts started the brighter of the two sides, dictating the play and pinning Wonders deep inside their half. Samartex’s relentless pressure was rewarded in the 20th minute, when Mamah nicked home a pinpoint stunner, leaving goalkeeper Joseph Baah stranded.
Wonders attempted to claw their way back into the game through captain Emmanuel Boateng, who fired narrowly wide from range, before Albert Frimpong forced a smart save from Musa Zakari.
However, Samartex’s attacking intent never waned, and they doubled their advantage midway through the second half. In the 63rd minute, Mamah latched rifled home his second of the afternoon, a strike that ultimately proved decisive.
Despite falling two goals behind, Eleven Wonders showed character and pulled one back in the 81st minute, as Eden Kofi Asamoah calmly slotted past Zakari to hand his side a glimmer of hope.
The Timber Giants, though, stood tall in the closing stages to secure their second successive home victory, moving up to fifth place in the Ghana Premier League table with nine points from five matches.
For Nii Odartey Lamptey’s men, however, the defeat marks a fifth consecutive game without a win, leaving them anchored to the bottom of the standings and desperately seeking inspiration ahead of their next outing against Karela United on October 18.
