Bechem United breathed new life into their survival bid in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League after grinding out a vital 1–0 home victory over bottom-placed Eleven Wonders in Sunday afternoon’s Matchweek 14 encounter at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Sports Stadium.
A solitary second-half strike from teenage forward Augustine Afranie Mensah proved decisive, as the Hunters finally converted their dominance into reward to claim a much-needed three points.
Under pressure following a difficult run of results, Bechem United started the match with purpose, asserting themselves early by dictating possession and pressing high up the pitch. The Hunters were clearly fired up on rebounding after managing just one win in their previous six matches, and their urgency was evident from the opening exchanges.
Despite their territorial control, clear-cut chances were at a premium in the first half, with Eleven Wonders defending deep and attempting to frustrate their hosts. Bechem probed patiently, but the breakthrough proved elusive as the sides went into the break level.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 74th minute, when 18-year-old attacker Augustine Afranie Mensah rose to the occasion. The youngster showed composure beyond his years, firing home to spark celebrations around Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park and hand the Hunters a deserved lead.
Eleven Wonders attempted to respond with renewed energy, enjoying brief moments of promise in the final stages, but their attacking forays lacked conviction. Bechem, mindful of what was at stake, dug deep and managed the closing minutes with discipline and resolve.
Despite late pressure from the visitors, the Hunters held firm to preserve the slender advantage, which ultimately proved enough to secure their third win of the campaign.
The victory lifts Bechem United to 13 points after 14 matches, with a record of three wins, four draws and seven defeats. However, they remain in the relegation zone in 17th position, knowing that further improvements will be required to climb to safety.
For Eleven Wonders, the outlook continues to look bleak. Coach Emmanuel Aidoo’s side remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points, having recorded one win, three draws and ten defeats, as their search for answers drags on.
