Young Apostles and Basake Holy Stars will face off at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon in matchday five of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.
The Agya Na Ɔwɔ Tumi head into the clash buoyed by back-to-back wins, while Holy Stars are still seeking their first league victory of the season, having drawn two and lost one of their opening three matches.
Match Preview
After a shaky start to the season, Agya Na Ɔwɔ Tumi’s men have quickly found their rhythm, stringing together a fine sequence of results under new head coach Abu Abdul-Hanaan, who replaced Abdul Rahim Bashiru Tijani last month.
Young Apostles’ campaign began with a disappointing 2–0 home defeat to Medeama, but the team responded positively with a spirited 1–1 draw at Hohoe United, followed by successive wins over Dreams FC (2–1) and Eleven Wonders (1–0).
The Wenchi-based outfit now sit comfortably in fifth with seven points from their opening four games and could climb as high as fourth with a win this weekend. Their recent form has been built on solid defensive organisation, having conceded just once in their last two matches, coupled with improved attacking sharpness led by Mobarak Zakari and Samuel Prempeh.
Their opponents, Basake Holy Stars, have endured a more frustrating start to life in the top flight. Coach Augustine Adotey’s side remain winless after three games, collecting only two points from possible nine — a run that leaves them in 16th position.
Holy Stars campaign opened with a gritty 0–0 draw against Eleven Wonders, drawing again against Bechem United, and going ahead to succumb to a 2–0 defeat to Berekum Chelsea. While results have been underwhelming, their performances have shown glimpses of promise, particularly in midfield, where Jacob Boazee and Francis Oteng have offered composure and control.
With both teams eager to sustain positive momentum, Sunday’s encounter in Wenchi promises to be an intriguing clash of form, and it will also be a battle between a side on the rise and one desperate to change its fortunes.
Team News
Young Apostles
Coach Abu Abdul-Hanaan is expected to retain much of the side that defeated Eleven Wonders last weekend. Captain Ramzy Abubakar will continue to anchor the midfield, supported by Huseine Issah and Samuel Prempeh in attacking roles.
Defender Mathias Amegbe is fit to start after recovering from a minor knock, while Masawudu will keep his spot in goal after two assured performances.
Basake Holy Stars
For the visitors, Augustine Adotey may freshen things up in attack, with Gideon Quaison pushing for a start.
Skipper George Nana Kissi remains a key cog in defence, while midfielder Sadat Zumah Ibrahim will once again look to dictate play from deep. Dubi Kassi Tayi retains his place between the sticks.
Young Apostles possible starting lineup:
Masawudu (GK); Ramzy Abubakar (C), Mathias Amegbe, Richmond Coka; Ali Ganiwu, Huseine Issah, Abdul Ganiyu Muftaw, Issah Nyaabila; Samuel Prempeh, Rurf Abdul Rahman; Mobarak Zakari.
Basake Holy Stars possible starting lineup:
Dubi Kassi Tayi (GK); George Nana Kissi (C), Peter Arhin, Kingsford Baffoe, Tey Bismark; Jacob Boazee, Sadat Zumah Ibrahim, Francis Oteng; Gideon Quaison, Kingsley Abeka, Joseph Addae.
We Say: Young Apostles 1–1 Basake Holy Stars
While Young Apostles enter the match as favourites on current form, Holy Stars have shown resilience in recent weeks and could prove a difficult side to break down.
We predict Samuel Prempeh will continue his scoring streak for the hosts, but Gideon Quaison may grab a late equaliser to earn the visitors a share of the spoils.
