Ghana’s second transfer window opened few days ago. It is a frantic period at the best of times, with clubs frenetically plunging into the transfer window in search of quick fixes to their cracks that have appeared since the commencement of the 2022/23 league season.
A lot of the clubs are reportedly busy in the market scouring for talents to beef up their squads. There are still some immensely talented footballers (others of dubious quality) still searching for clubs and there is the possibility that they could get back to the top as was the case seasons ago.
There’s a whole host of high-profile names still unattached, three of which we check out below.
Mohammed Alhassan
Alhassan has been a force at the back for Hearts since his arrival from WAFA in 2018. After a few years of mixed performances, drawing criticism for his sometimes erratic and unorthodox defending, the defender was recently released by the Phobians for reasons best known to them, the experienced centre-back will be on to pastures new for the remainder of the season.
Alhassan has been a target for several clubs in the country. The Porcupine Warriors have reportedly shown interest in the former Hearts man and are expected to win the race for his signature.
Christopher Nettey
The former Asante Kotoko right-back is a delight to watch. He is an energetic presence and provides plenty of cut and thrust down the right flank, but he isn’t found wanting defensively.
He likes to combine with his left winger, progressing down the line with his 1 -2s and transitions, rather than looking to beat players with skill or pace. Perhaps his biggest strength is his game intelligence. He could be an ideal signing for any club.
The current frontrunners for his signature are Accra Hearts of Oak, where he has reportedly set his mind on.
Maxwell Abbey Quaye
The forward is believed to have seen out his contract with Accra Great Olympics. He’s hardworking, pacey, physical and with a good sense of positioning and blessed with an ability to shoot with either foot. There are hushed talks linking Quaye to Hearts. The Phobians are seeking a player who can score goals and Quaye seems a perfect business should they land him.
At first glance, he looks thin and awkward, but is graceful on the ball and always difficult to contend with in physical battles with stronger opponents. Clubs looking the aforementioned qualities should just grab Maxwell Abbey Quaye.
