Asante Kotoko are known to be in the market for an attacking midfielder, and the most recent name to come up is that of Godfred Kwadwo Asamoah.

With the departure of Fabio Gama and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Richmond Lamptey, Kotoko need to strengthen their midfield options and Assmoah would be a relatively cheap option.

This could be a transfer to watch out for in the next few weeks, so give yourself a head start with these four facts about Asamoah.

He was once Ogum's student and captain

Should the transfer materialise, Asamoah would be reuniting with his former P.E. tutor Prosper Narteh Ogum. The two had previously established a teacher-student, coach-player relationship during their days at Koforidua Senior High School.

By virtue of his position as a PE tutor, Ogum was in charge of the school's men's football team that had talented players like Latif Blessing, Isaac Twum, and Clifford Aboagye- with Godfred Kwadwo Asamoah as the captain of the side.

He once played as a left-back

Although Kotoko are interested in him for his abilities as a midfielder, Asamoah had early on in his professional career played as a left-back and thrived there, most notably during a spell at Hearts of Lions, before settling on a more attacking role as his strengths revealed themselves.

He possesses an adventurous, dynamic running style and a wand of a left foot. He prefers to push the ball past defenders, confident in his ability to beat them in a foot race.

The big boys were interested from the start

Back when Asamoah was still playing for Hearts of Lions in Ghana's second-tier league, in his native France, it was reported in the media that Accra Hearts of Oak had offered him a contract to move to the club. Kotoko and Ashantigold were both also said to be keeping tabs on him around that time.

Ultimately, however, he felt that first-team action would be more immediately accessible at Dreams FC and chose to go there instead.

The team always comes first

As an attacking midfielder it's very easy to shirk your defensive responsibilities. Isn't that right?

Asamoah, however, has shown time and time again with his previous clubs that he isn't afraid to track back for his teammates and even get stuck into tackles.

He can turn defence into attack in an instant and is always offering opposition sides a threat in behind their sluggish centre-backs.
