Former Asante Kotoko and TP Mazembe midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei has credited the Porcupine Warriors as the foundation of his successful football journey, acknowledging the club’s immense influence on his development as a player.

Nii Adjei, now 36 and serving as assistant coach at Heart of Lions, reflected on his time with Kotoko in a recent interview, describing the experience as a defining period in his career.

“Asante Kotoko shaped my career,” he said. “Players are criticized heavily for every defeat, and that makes you strong. You always have to fight for victory — always.”

Nii Adjei played for Asante Kotoko from 2007 to 2012, winning three Ghana Premier League titles during his time in Kumasi. His performances earned him a move to Congolese giants TP Mazembe, where he added a CAF Champions League title and two CAF Confederation Cup trophies to his résumé.

He also had a stint in Morocco with Wydad Casablanca, continuing his successful run on the continental stage.

Now back in Ghana in a coaching role, Nii Adjei helped guide Heart of Lions to an impressive second-place finish in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season. His transition into coaching has been smooth, and his wealth of experience is proving valuable in the dugout.

Looking back, he remains grateful for the platform Kotoko provided him, which propelled him to the highest levels of African football.
