Former Hearts of Oak captain, Amankwah Mireku has lashed out on the current players of the club stating they are the major problem and should face the criticism and not coach Aboubakar Ouattara.

The Ivorian gaffer has come under huge criticism recently after some recent string of poor results but redeemed themselves over the weekend with a narrow 1-0 win over Medeama SC but still sit out of the top four on the league log.

With this, many a Hearts faithful feels they have a good squad but are still struggling because their coach is very weak tactically and is not drawing up any system or strategy to bring out the best out of the pool of talents at his disposal.

But, club legend Amankwah Mireku holds a different opinion as he's charged the players to back up and feels they deserve to be criticized and not the technical team since they always exhibit lackadaisical and nonchalant attitude on the pitch when handed the opportunity.

"The coach works with the players all week, but once they step onto the pitch, he relinquishes control,” Mireku said. “If things go wrong on the field, it’s more about the players than the coach," he said.

"For me, I don’t understand this narrative. The coach is human; he has his responsibilities and limitations. But when players don’t perform, people immediately point fingers at the coach. It has become the norm in town; once results dip, they say the coach is bad.

"Of course, the coach may make mistakes, but even when a player clearly commits an error, people still blame the coach. That’s unfair."

Currently in the fifth place on the league log with 40 points, Hearts of Oak will face regional rivals Vision FC in the next round of matches.
