Former Asante Kotoko forward Charles Taylor has expressed doubts over the team’s readiness for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign, following their disappointing showing in the recently concluded GHALCA Top 4 tournament.

The Porcupine Warriors endured a torrid run in the preseason competition, finishing bottom of the table after losing all their matches — a performance Taylor believes highlights deeper issues within the squad.

“Asante Kotoko must improve their game before the Africa campaign,” Taylor cautioned the Porcupine during an interview with Darius Osei Ember on Angel TV.

“As a lifelong Kotoko fan and former player, I urge the team to step up if they want to make an impact in the competition.”

He further criticized the team’s lack of urgency and focus, describing their play as casual and error-prone.
“I don’t see any seriousness in the team considering their output at the GHALCA Top 4. I saw a lot of blunders — the players were just playing for playing sake. A lot of things must change before the competition starts,” he added.

Kotoko are making their first return to continental football since 2022, having secured qualification through their Ghana FA Cup triumph last season. They will host Nigeria’s Kwara United in the first leg of the preliminary round between September 19 and 21 before traveling for the return leg from September 26 to 28.

Should they advance, the Ghanaian giants will face Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round, with ties scheduled for October 17–19 (first leg) and October 24–26 (second leg).

With the stakes high, Taylor’s warning serves as a wake-up call for Kotoko, who are under pressure to make a strong impression on their return to Africa’s continental stage.
