Head coach of Medeama SC, Ibrahim Tanko, has expressed deep concern about the growing trend of predicted scorelines in Ghana football, describing it as a dangerous development that undermines the integrity of the game — especially in a league struggling with sponsorship issues.

Speaking in an interview on Medeama FM, the former Black Stars assistant coach revealed that while the issue of sponsorship in the local league is an "open secret," hearing the final result of a match before it is even played poses serious ethical questions.

"The issue of sponsorship is an open secret in our league, so it is dangerous to hear a scoreline before a game is played,” Tanko stated. “But club owners are aware — on the other hand, you have to be careful when saying it because of lack of evidence.”

Tanko's comments come at a time when Ghana football is facing increasing scrutiny over allegations of match-fixing and manipulation, particularly in the lower divisions. His remarks suggest that insiders — including club executives — may have knowledge of questionable practices, but the absence of concrete proof makes it difficult to hold anyone accountable.

Despite the gravity of his words, Tanko maintained a cautious tone, urging stakeholders to focus on improving the structures of the league, especially in terms of securing financial backing and enforcing transparency.

“Sponsorship challenges mean many clubs are desperate for survival, but that shouldn't open the door to unethical practices,” he warned. “We need strong leadership and systems that protect the integrity of the game.”

Medeama SC, last season's Ghana Premier League champions, have been a vocal advocate for reform in Ghana football, especially following their recent involvement in CAF inter-club competitions.

Tanko’s statement adds to growing calls from players, coaches, and fans for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take firm action against any form of manipulation while also addressing the long-standing lack of financial support in the league.
