After a rollercoaster debut season at the helm of Medeama SC, head coach Ibrahim Tanko is full of praise, not just for the players, but for the tight-knit, supportive culture that made it all possible.
Speaking in an exclusive postseason sit-down interview on Medeama 92.9 FM on Tuesday, the former Black Galaxies coach described the club as “a proper football family,” commending the management, technical team, and fans for backing him through every high and low of the 2024/25 campaign.
“I have enjoyed my working relationship with everyone at Medeama this half-season as head coach,” Tanko said. “From the Club President, Mr. [Moses] Armah, with whom I share a long-standing relationship, to the management, the technical team led by coach Adotey, the players, and the supporters, everyone has welcomed me warmly here in Tarkwal.”
Tanko, who was appointed in January 2025, on a two-and-a-half-year deal, taking over from interim boss and technical director Evans Adotey, who had stepped in temporarily following the departure of Serbian coach Nebojsa Kapor, weathered early inconsistencies to steer the Yellow and Mauve to an 8th placed finish, while blooding young talent and implementing a bold, attacking style.
Tanko’s work ethic, calm demeanor, and commitment to youth development have made him a fan favorite and the club is already planning pre-season around his long-term vision.
The 47-year-old tactician is no stranger to pressure, having coached Ghana’s U23 side and served as an assistant coach, scout, and head coach of the Black Stars B (Black Galaxies) team. But Tanko insists his time at Medeama feels “refreshing” and is just the beginning of a promising project.
