Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak, shared a heartwarming story from the 1980s when he used his money meant for purchasing tilapia to support the struggling football club.
He explained that when he returned to Ghana from abroad, he was touched by the club's plight and contributed to help them.
Dr. Tamakloe joined Hearts of Oak in the 1980s and has since served the club in various capacities. At the time of his return, the club faced challenges, with only 13 players showing up for a game against Asante Kotoko. The bus also had no fuel, so he and other officials contributed money, with Dr. Tamakloe using his tilapia money for this purpose.
“One day I drove to Tudu to get some tilapia around the Hearts of Oak secretariat and I was called by one of the officials, when I asked what he was doing here, he said they were waiting for the players and I joined them to wait for the players. We waited and only 13 players showed up because officials have to send people to call these players from their various homes”.
Despite the difficulties, the team managed to secure a draw against Asante Kotoko.
“After waiting for hours, the driver showed of the bus showed up and said there was no fuel in the bus so we had to contribute and so I used my tilapia money to help get fuel for the bus which became my first investment for the club and finally they travelled to Kumasi and managed a draw against Asante Kotoko”, he added.
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe's dedication and support for Hearts of Oak demonstrate his commitment to the club, where he has played a significant role over the years, even serving as the president of the Ghana Football Association and as Ghana's ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro.
