FC Samartex has announced that Nurudeen Amadu has stepped down as head coach by mutual consent, bringing an end to his tenure just 13 matches into the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
The decision follows a difficult spell for the Timber Giants, which includes three consecutive defeats in the league.
Currently sitting in 10th place in the standings with 17 points, Samartex has been unable to replicate the form that brought them their historic maiden Premier League title under Amadu last season.
Amadu, who took over the reins in July 2023, had a highly successful first campaign, leading the club to their first-ever league title and securing a spot in the CAF Champions League. However, their continental journey ended prematurely with an early exit at the hands of Raja Casablanca in the second round.
In the interim, assistant coach Henry Wellington will take over as the team’s head coach, as Samartex management begins its search for a permanent replacement.
