Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak have been barred by FIFA from registering new players after failing to settle an outstanding debt owed to Dutch trainer Rene Hiddink.
In a letter dated August 21, 2025, FIFA’s Head of Disciplinary, Américo Espallargas, said the Phobians had ignored previous rulings ordering them to pay the arrears.
The sanction prevents Hearts from processing international and domestic signings until the obligation is cleared. The ban could extend to a maximum of three consecutive registration periods if the club fails to comply.
FIFA has also instructed the Ghana Football Association to apply the sanction locally, preventing Hearts from registering new players in the Ghana Premier League.
The timing is a blow to the Phobians, who were in talks with former Dreams FC goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi and ex-Asante Kotoko shot-stopper Kwame Baah, who is currently training with the club. Both deals now hinge on the debt being paid.
The ruling leaves the Hearts board under pressure to resolve the case quickly or risk entering the new season without vital additions.
