The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the termination of negotiations with Chinese pay-TV broadcaster StarTimes over the renewal of its media rights agreement.
In a statement released by the GFA, the association confirmed that all discussions with StarTimes ended in March 2025, following the expiration of the previous broadcast contract at the conclusion of the 2023/24 football season.
The two parties had been in talks over a possible extension of the deal, but were ultimately unable to reach an agreement on the terms of renewal. As a result, the GFA formally informed StarTimes of the end of negotiations and has since initiated steps to recover an outstanding debt.
According to the GFA, StarTimes owes a total of USD 842,173.36 from the previous agreement. The Association has engaged legal counsel and has commenced formal procedures to retrieve the outstanding amount.
"The GFA remains committed to securing a transparent, fair, and mutually beneficial media partnership that aligns with the interests of our clubs, the Association, and all key stakeholders," the statement emphasized.
This development leaves the GFA in search of a new broadcast partner ahead of the 2024/25 football season, with the Association aiming to enhance visibility and commercial value for Ghana’s domestic competitions through improved media partnerships.
