Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC are set to terminate the contract of striker Francis Andy Kumi at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The 24-year-old forward joined the Mauve and Yellow in August 2024 on a two-year deal amid high expectations but has failed to make a meaningful impact during his time in Tarkwa.

Kumi's underwhelming performances throughout the campaign have reportedly led the club’s hierarchy to remove him from head coach Ibrahim Tanko’s long-term plans, as Medeama prepare for a significant squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 season.

He is among several senior players expected to exit the club, with fellow forward Diawisie Taylor also reportedly on the departure list.

Kumi arrived at Medeama in a widely anticipated move, having turned down a formal approach from Accra Hearts of Oak. Despite the hype, he struggled to find form and consistency and failed to replicate the goal-scoring prowess that once defined his earlier career in the Ghanaian top flight.

The former Asante Kotoko and Kotoku Royals striker rose to prominence during the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season, where he netted nine goals for relegated Kotoku Royals. His standout displays earned him a move to Serbian top-tier side FK Radnički Niš, where he finished as the club’s top scorer, despite their eventual relegation.

After a brief spell with Serbian lower-division outfit OFK Vršac, Kumi returned to Ghana as a free agent and signed with Medeama in hopes of reviving his career. He previously had a short stint with Bechem United following his departure from Asante Kotoko in 2022.

Medeama’s decision to offload Kumi reflects a broader intent to reshape the squad under the guidance of newly appointed coach Ibrahim Tanko, with the club aiming to rebuild a more competitive team for the upcoming season.

As his time in Tarkwa nears its end, Kumi will now look ahead to a new chapter—either with another Ghana Premier League side or an opportunity abroad to reignite his career.
