In a fiercely contested match this Sunday, struggling Real Tamale United (RTU) faced off against league leaders Samartex in the 29th round of the Ghana Premier League.
The Pride of the North capitalized on their home advantage, triumphing over Samartex to halt their two-game winless streak in the Ghanaian top-flight.
RTU entered the match without a permanent coach following the departure of Abdul Mumin Abdulai amid allegations of a match-fixing scandal after their 2-1 home defeat to Nsoatreman FC.
Despite sitting at the bottom of the league table, the Tamale-based club displayed resilience and determination, clinching a crucial victory against the formidable Samartex at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
Although in-form Evans Osei Wusu returned to the starting lineup for Samartex after a suspension, his efforts were in vain as his team succumbed to defeat in Tamale.
RTU seized the lead in the 43rd minute and maintained their advantage until halftime, ultimately securing a well-deserved win and three valuable points.
Despite the triumph, RTU remains rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with 28 points from 28 matches. Notably, RTU has an outstanding game against Dreams FC due to their involvement in the Africa campaign.
With only five games remaining in the season, RTU faces an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, Samartex maintains their position at the top of the league standings with 52 points from 29 games in the current season.
