The Premier League title race is entering the final straight and it will be time for the silverware to be handed out soon enough.

There have been plenty of stand-out contenders for the Player of the Season award this season but it is Asante Kotoko's Franck Etouga Mbella who appears to be making the most overwhelming case for winning the individual gong.

Can anyone stop Mbella from being named best player? We take a look at the seven leading contenders...

Franck Etouga Mbella (Asante Kotoko)

The Kotoko forward has been nothing short of sensational this season, scoring goals and assists as the Porcupine Warriors wrestles for the league title. Having joined Kotoko at the beginning of the season from Cameroonian side Fortuna du Mfou.

Arriving from a foreign country and does not speak English or any native language is undoubtedly a daunting experience, as is dealing with pressure of playing for Asante Kotoko, yet the highest compliment one can give to the Cameroonian is to admit that he instantly looked like he belonged in the team. He has weighed in with 19 goals and 2 assists in 25 outings this season.

Augustine Okrah (Bechem United)

Augustine Okrah may not appear for one of the ‘Big Clubs’ but his efforts for Bechem United have been a cut above. The 28-year-old won’t get the rave reviews for scoring goals like his peers on this list- but he has been a model of consistency for the Hunters and is one of the best in his position in the country. He has scored 13 goals with 3 assists. He has just about every fancy trick and flick known to man in his repertoire, along with a wand of a left foot which has produced more than a few moments of brilliance throughout the season.

Umar Bashiru (Karela United FC)

Bashiru is odds-on to win this award after strings of exhilarating performances for Karela United. He has played a leading role in transforming the erstwhile listless Karela side into one of the most entertaining sides in the division. He continues to produce the goods on a weekly basis. It seems a long shot but Bashiru's electric run of form in the first half of the season surely pushed him into the reckoning and thus stands a chance of snaffling this individual award. He has scored 11 goals and registered 3 assists as a midfielder

Yaw Annor (Ashantigold SC)

Annor has developed into one of the division’s most fearful forwards this campaign. Quick, intelligent and a fine finisher with either foot, he is devastating in transition and increasingly adept at helping the Miners break down deep defences.

He commits defenders and opens up space for others with his sharp movement in and out of possession. He’s simply too talented to miss out on our list. Blink and you'll miss him.

Not only is he a nightmarish dribbler, but the versatile Annor knows how to rack up goals and assists as well. It's non-stop excitement. He has scored 16 goals so far and is only behind Mbella on the goal scorers chart.

Ibrahim Imoro (Asante Kotoko)

The Kotoko left-back has been fantastic this season, and is a regular feature in their setup. He is blessed with speed and is quite good on the ball, which has helped him to become one of the best left-backs in the division this season.

Imoro is defensively sound and does not dive into tackles on every occasion. He is good with his interceptions and likes initiating attacks by sending long balls to his forwards. He likes taking set pieces and is quite good at them too. He is extremely talented on the ball and likes to dribble his way up the field. In 31 appearances, he has 5 assists, 1 goal to his credit.

Abdulai Iddrisu (Bechem United)

Bechem United's Abdulai Iddrisu has seriously been superb for the Hunters this term. In 23 games, he has kept 10 clean sheets and conceded 12. His giant presence in the Bechem goal and impact on their much-improved defensive record in the league are what's stood out, and his form has been incredible.

He is a no thrills, no spills kind of guy, who is not necessarily renowned for his excellent work with the ball at his feet, nor his ability to play out from the back. Nah, this man just saves shots. All shots. Every shot.

Mohammed Alhassan (Hearts of Oak)

The centre-back is undoubtedly the best centre-back in the league. With a no-nonsense defending approach, along comes his ball-playing abilities and knack of bringing the ball out of defence and playing accurate passes over the oppositions defence.

The Hearts man has enjoyed a stellar campaign this term. To say Alhassan delivered the goods would be understatement. He has been a colossus at the back for much of the season.
