Former Porcupine Warriors coach says he leaves satisfied after guiding club to four trophies in under a year

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has opened up about his departure from the club, expressing pride and satisfaction over what he describes as a rewarding and successful tenure with the Porcupine Warriors.

Zito explained that his decision to step down came after discussions with the club’s management, but insisted he has no regrets and departs with a strong sense of accomplishment.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the experienced trainer stated that he remains content with his contribution to the club’s progress.

“I resigned from my position following a meeting with management, but I am a happy man. I remain a legend of the club,” he said.

Appointed last year, Zito managed 37 competitive matches during his time in charge, recording 19 victories, 11 draws, and just seven defeats. His team built a reputation for defensive solidity, keeping 19 clean sheets, conceding only 31 goals, and scoring 50.

His tenure was also highlighted by a remarkable run of success in competitions, as he led the Kumasi giants to four major trophies — the MTN FA Cup, the Super Cup, the President’s Cup, and the Toyota Cup in South Africa. The achievements made his spell one of the most productive in recent years at the club.

The former coach also took time to acknowledge the backing he received from supporters, crediting them for playing a role in the team’s achievements during his brief period in charge.

“I want to thank Asante Kotoko supporters for their support. I coached the club for barely one year and was able to win four trophies for the team,” he added.

Zito’s exit brings an end to a chapter he believes was defined by discipline, success, and memorable achievements — a legacy he is confident will continue to be remembered at Asante Kotoko.
