Former Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has spoken about his decision to step down from the club, expressing pride and satisfaction over what he describes as a rewarding and successful period in charge of the Porcupine Warriors.

Zito disclosed that his resignation came after discussions with the club’s leadership, but insisted he walks away content with his achievements and the impact he made during his time in Kumasi.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, he said, “I resigned from my position following a meeting with management, but I am a happy man. I remain a legend of the club.”

Appointed last year, Zito managed 37 competitive matches during his stint, recording 19 victories, 11 draws, and just seven defeats. His side showed notable defensive organisation, keeping 19 clean sheets, conceding 31 goals, and scoring 50 times.

His tenure was highlighted by a string of major successes, as Kotoko lifted four trophies under his leadership — the MTN FA Cup, the Super Cup, the Toyota Cup in South Africa, and the President’s Cup. The achievements marked one of the most productive spells for the club in recent years.

The former coach also used the opportunity to show appreciation to the club’s supporters for standing by him throughout his time in charge.

“I want to thank Asante Kotoko supporters for their support. I coached the club for barely one year and was able to win four trophies for the team,” he added.

Zito’s departure brings an end to a short but impactful chapter, one he believes was built on discipline, strong performances, and lasting success for the Kumasi giants.
