Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku has expressed his determination to lead the club to silverware during his second stint with the Porcupine Warriors.

The former Nkoransa Warriors striker, who enjoyed a standout first spell with Kotoko before joining Algerian side USM Alger in 2021, is back to bolster the team’s attack. Opoku scored nine goals for the Kumasi-based giants during his initial tenure, establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.

Returning to the club on a free transfer, the 25-year-old was officially unveiled before Kotoko’s weekend victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

Speaking in his first interview with the club’s media team, Opoku revealed his ambition to help the team achieve success, both domestically and on the continental stage.

“I have to help the team as a whole to achieve its goals—winning trophies and competing on the continent. I couldn’t win any trophy in my first stint, but I believe this time I have a lot to offer,” he stated.

Opoku also reflected on the emotional difficulty of leaving the club in 2021, acknowledging how much Kotoko means to him.

“Leaving Kotoko was a hard decision for me. The morning before my departure, I felt bad about leaving a great club like Kotoko,” he added.

While Opoku was not part of the matchday squad against Hearts of Oak, he is expected to be available for Kotoko’s next fixture against Bibiani Gold Stars in Kumasi.
