Francis Andy Kumi, former striker of Asante Kotoko, has shed light on the reasons behind his lack of impact during his tenure at the club.
The 24-year-old, who joined Kotoko from UniStar, had a brief stint with the Ghanaian giants, lasting only one season. Failing to make a significant impression, he subsequently left to join Bechem United before the start of the last season.
Kumi experienced a resurgence in his form after joining Kotoku Royals, where he netted 12 goals in 20 appearances, which ultimately led to a move abroad.
In an interview with Citi FM, Kumi, who recently signed a three-year contract with Serbian side FK Radnicki, revealed that his progress at Kotoko was hindered by his own teammates.
"For experience, I experienced so much when I left UniStar for Kotoko. When I went to Kotoko, my first week wasn't easy because of the way I thought of certain things. I knew Kumasi Asante will have big players so I was a little nervous but during my first week of training, I said yes, Kotoko is Kotoko but I can compete with them," he told Citi Sports.
"But it was unfortunate, when I started, I was scoring one or two goals but it got to a point some players were saying so many things that when strikers come to Kotoko and start to score, people will praise them and tomorrow they are gone and that was when everything change. I was finding it difficult to get pass to score."
