Former Hearts of Oak defender Caleb Amankwah has shed light on the significant financial disparity between Ghanaian and Ethiopian football, claiming that clubs in Ethiopia pay considerably better salaries than their Ghanaian counterparts.

Amankwah, who recently transitioned from the Ghana Premier League giants to Ethiopian side Commercial Bank FC, spoke candidly about the differences in player compensation.

"In terms of salary, Ethiopia is far better than what Ghana Premier League players receive," Amankwah shared in an interview with Asempa FM. "If the salary in Ghana was something substantial, I would have stayed rather than move to Ethiopia."

His remarks underscore a growing concern for Ghanaian football, as the lure of better financial rewards in Ethiopia could prompt more talented players to leave the Ghana Premier League, potentially diminishing its overall quality.

Amankwah further explained, "In Ethiopia, local players seldom leave the country to play in other leagues. For us foreigners, the salaries are quite beneficial, so we tend to stay or move to other leagues before possibly returning to Ghana."

His comments highlight how competitive salaries in Ethiopia not only attract foreign talent but also help retain local players, presenting a challenge for Ghanaian clubs to keep their best talent at home.
