Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay has accused his ex-teammate Kwame Opoku of engaging in a relationship with his then-girlfriend during their time at the Ghanaian Premier League club.
Blay made the allegation in a recent interview with Kumasi-based Pure FM, claiming the incident occurred while both players were teammates at the fold of the Porcupine Warriors. He described the act as a “personal betrayal” that deeply affected him off the pitch.
"I had a girlfriend who used to visit me at the camp," Blay said, without naming the woman involved. “Before I knew it, the same lady was involved with Mohammed Camara. We had a disagreement that led us to the police station, but I was advised to settle the matter amicably with the lady, which I did.”
He went on to claim that a similar situation unfolded with Opoku on a second occasion.
"After that, I had another, and I introduced her to Kwame Opoku. He used to talk to the woman, and before I realised, Kwame Opoku had snatched the woman from me.”
Blay noted that the matter escalated to the point where then-head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum had to intervene.
"I approached him about the issue, and he denied it. The issue was settled by Prosper Narteh Ogum, and even before Karim Zito arrived, the same issue was resolved again, but what Kwame Opoku hurts me.”
Kwame Opoku, has not publicly responded to the allegation. The incident has sparked widespread debate among Ghanaians on social media, though no formal comment has been issued by Asante Kotoko.
