Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay has spoken out about leaving the the club and made a number of startling revelations regarding life in the team's camp while he was a member.
Blay stated on Pure FM that even before management formally told him, he had a feeling he was no longer part of the club's plans.
“I knew I was not going to be part of Kotoko’s team. I sensed it during our camp ahead of the MTN FA Cup game against Golden Kick FC. I was later called into a meeting and told that I am no longer in the plans of the club. The explanation they gave was that they are not only looking at performance,” he stated.
He went on to explain that he heard coach Kwesi Appiah and Nana Apinkra having a private chat in which one of them said, "I like Kwame," which strengthened his impression that sides had been chosen.
Beyond football, though, Blay also responded to criticism of his off-field behaviour, specifically that he was a strong drinker.
“People have been misinformed that I’m the only drunkard in the club, but that’s not true,” he said. He named teammates Joseph Ablor and Guinea import Camara Mohammed as players who, according to him, also engaged in smoking ‘Shisha’.
Blay also revealed some dramatic personal conflicts within the team. He alleged that Camara Mohammed snatched his girlfriend, which even led to a police case during a confrontation between me and the lady, and Kwame Poku also betrayed him by taking over his ‘sugar mummy’.
“That’s where I even assaulted the security man at the club house because of the tension,” he confessed. I am clarifying this because it has been twisted.
Even though he had one more year left on his contract, Kotoko and Justice Blay decided to end it after the 2024–2025 season.
