Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says the club will look to strengthen its forward line when the transfer window opens, following his side’s goalless draw with Vision FC on Wednesday.
The Porcupine Warriors dominated much of the game but once again struggled to find the cutting edge in the box, an issue Zito admits needs urgent attention.
“Of course, we have to [sign new strikers],” Zito said after the match.
“Right now, we only have two strikers, one is an Under-20 player who has been on the bench and is still adjusting, and the other, Kwame Poku, is also struggling. That leaves us with only Donzo. So automatically, when the window opens, we have to go in for one or two.”
He stressed that the demands of the Ghana Premier League and cup competitions makes it vital to strengthen the team’s striking department.
“When you look at the league and the knockout games, there are a lot of matches, you can’t go through all that with just one striker,” he added.
“Even though I’ve encouraged everyone to get involved in scoring, we still need proper finishers. So yes, I’ll definitely go to the market.”
Despite their goal-scoring concerns, Kotoko remain unbeaten in seven league games, with four wins and three draws. They will next face Aduana FC, the current league leaders, in what promises to be a decisive fixture.
