Abdul Karim Zito says Asante Kotoko tried to persuade him to stay on as head coach, but he had already decided to resign.

The former Black Satellites coach stepped down on Monday, a day after Kotoko were knocked out of the FA Cup following a 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Round of 16.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Zito said his decision came after discussions with people close to him.

“It became a family issue, and we had to talk it out and find an amicable solution. In the end, we all agreed that I should leave,” he said.
Zito explained that club officials made efforts to change his mind, but he remained firm.

“They did their best to change my mind, but my mind was already made up. I am a legend of the club, and if an issue arises, you need to remain calm and talk things out. I have resigned.”

Despite his short spell at the club, Zito expressed satisfaction with his achievements.

“I have been on the job for barely a year, and I won four trophies. I am very happy about it,” he added.

Zito took charge of the Porcupine Warriors in April last year and went on to guide the club to FA Cup success at the end of the season.

Asante Kotoko have since announced that assistant coaches Prince Osei Yaw and Hamza Obeng will take charge of the team for Sunday’s Super Clash against Hearts of Oak.
