Bechem United assistant coach Mallam Yahaya has described Asante Kotoko as the biggest club in Ghana as his side prepares for a difficult Ghana Premier League test against the Porcupine Warriors this weekend.
The Hunters will travel to Kumasi on Sunday to face Kotoko in a Week 16 league fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 pm. Speaking ahead of the encounter, Mallam Yahaya acknowledged the stature and history of Kotoko, noting that the fixture presents both a challenge and an opportunity for his team.
“Kotoko is the biggest team in Ghana,” Mallam Yahaya said in an interview with Bechem United TV. “They are also one of the biggest teams in Africa, and playing against them is always a big test.”
Despite the respect for their hosts, the Bechem United assistant coach insisted that his side will not be overawed on matchday. He explained that the team has prepared thoroughly in training, focusing on correcting mistakes and improving overall performance ahead of the clash in Kumasi.
“We are still learning and correcting our mistakes so that we can improve,” he added. “Although we respect Kotoko a lot, we will put that aside once the game starts. Our boys are in good form, and if they play to their strengths, they will give Kotoko a tough match.”
Bechem United head into the fixture with renewed confidence following improved results in recent matches, a run that has helped ease pressure within the camp. Mallam Yahaya believes that momentum, combined with discipline and focus, could help the Hunters secure a positive outcome away from home.
“I’m confident we can pick either one point or all three points from the match,” he said.
Sunday’s encounter is expected to attract strong support at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with Kotoko aiming to maintain their push in the league standings, while Bechem United seek to continue their climb and prove their credentials against one of the country’s most decorated clubs.
