Caleb Amankwah, the defender for Accra Hearts of Oak SC, has dismissed claims that the club played a match of convenience against Medeama SC last Sunday.
The versatile player firmly denies that the players of Hearts of Oak would ever accept money or engage in a compromised match.
"The claims suggesting that we were influenced by money or played a match of convenience are completely untrue," Amankwah stated.
"Hearts of Oak is a prestigious club, and as players, we would never invite trouble for ourselves or tarnish the reputation of such a big club by engaging in a compromised match."
Amankwah emphasized that no one approached the team before or after the game to influence their performance, and Medeama SC defeated them fair and square.
"There were no external factors that influenced us. Medeama SC defeated us on fair grounds," he assured during an interview with Oyerepa FM.
In the Ghana Premier League week 31 clash at the Accra Sports Stadium, Accra Hearts of Oak suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of Medeama SC.
Prior to the match, there were speculations and discussions about the game, with some football enthusiasts suspecting a match of convenience due to the friendly relationship between Hearts of Oak and Medeama, as both teams are vying for the league title.
Following the victory, Medeama climbed to the top of the league table with 53 points from 31 matches.
