Chairman of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), Nana Apinkra, has delivered a firm and motivating message to the playing body following the departure of head coach Abdul Karim Zito.

A day after the club confirmed Zito’s resignation on Monday evening, Nana Apinkra visited the team at their training base at the Adako Jachie Complex, urging the players to shift focus from recent events and concentrate on the task ahead.

Kotoko now have just four days to regroup and prepare for a high-stakes clash against archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday. The Porcupine Warriors will head into the Ghana Premier League Week 22 fixture without a head coach following the sudden end of Zito’s tenure.

Despite the setback, the IMC Chairman stressed the importance of staying united and maintaining a strong mentality ahead of the derby.

Addressing the squad, Nana Apinkra made it clear that the team must move past the coaching change and channel their energy into improving results.

“We can’t afford further excuses. It’s redemption time, and let’s leave the past behind and focus on what is ahead. We must redeem ourselves on Sunday.”
His comments underline the urgency within the club as they seek to bounce back and restore confidence among supporters.

Sunday’s encounter is set to renew one of Ghana football’s fiercest rivalries, with pride and crucial points on the line. Kotoko currently sit fifth on the league table with 35 points, just one point behind Hearts of Oak, who have 36. League leaders Medeama SC remain eight points clear at the top.
